ERZURUM CLOCK TOWER
The Clock Tower, which is considered to be one of the oldest works of the Islamic period in Erzurum, was built as a minaret in the Inner Castle Masjid by the Saltuklu Ruler Ebu’l Kasım in the middle of the 12th century. The base of the building, which rises adjacent to the city wall in the southeast corner of the Inner Fortress, was built in a cylindrical form of cut stone and the body of brick. XVI. At the beginning of the century, the upper part of the minaret was demolished, first in 1848, then in 1881, it was used as a “Clock Tower” and also as a Watch Tower.
