ERZURUM CLOCK TOWER

The Clock Tower, which is considered to be one of the oldest works of the Islamic period in Erzurum, was built as a minaret in the Inner Castle Masjid by the Saltuklu Ruler Ebu’l Kasım in the middle of the 12th century. The base of the building, which rises adjacent to the city wall in the southeast corner of the Inner Fortress, was built in a cylindrical form of cut stone and the body of brick. XVI. At the beginning of the century, the upper part of the minaret was demolished, first in 1848, then in 1881, it was used as a “Clock Tower” and also as a Watch Tower. ERZURUM LALA MUSTAFA PAŞA MOSQUE

The mosque located in the east of Yakutiye Madrasa on Cumhuriyet Street in the city center of Erzurum; It was built by the conqueror of Cyprus Lala Mustafa Pasha in 1562-1563 (H. The foundation of the complex, located in the General Directorate of Foundations, is dated 1563-1564 (H.971). Between the years 1836-1839, a muvakkithane was added to the Lala Mustafa Pasha Complex. However, the muvakkithane, the pedophile school and the palace have not survived. Today, the bath is standing as well as the mosque.

Oltu stone, which has been carved in Erzurum since the 18th century, is one of the best examples of semi-precious stones to be found in the world. Oltu is excavated generally around Yasakdag, especially in Dutlu, Hankaskisla, Alatarla and Cataksu villages between March and October. There are approximately 600 oltu quarries around this area. Out of a total of 290 quarries in the Central Dutlu Region, 120 quarries are still being worked.

AZİZİYE STATE 

In order to keep the Hamamder, through which the Erzurum-Kars highway passes, under control, between the years 1867-1872, Sultan Abdulaziz, located at the south end of Topdağı, located at the north of Karskapi, at an altitude of 2068 meters, only a small part of the Aziziye Bastion reached today intact. Three Aziziye Bastion, which are side by side from south to north, are positioned with a “C” shaped plan.

In the Ottoman – Russian War of 1877-1878 (93 War), it was the scene of heroic battles. When the Ottoman Forces, which defeated the enemy in Deveboynu, began to withdraw, the Russian Army began preparations to encircle Erzurum.

ERZURUM CASTLE

The castle, which was destroyed in 840, was repaired by the Byzantines (Eastern Rome) in 922 and some additions were made. Tepsi Minaret was added by Saltuklular in 1124-1132. In 1201, Rükneddin Süleyman Şah had the castle repaired. Changing hands between Karakoyunlu and Akkoyunlu in 1385, the castle was captured by the Ottomans in 1514. Suleiman the Magnificent I. and II. He made repairs in the castle during the Iran Campaigns. Barracks were added to the Inner Castle in 1552-1553. The castle was repaired by Süleyman the Magnificent in 1554. It was occupied by the Russians in the 16th century and some of it was destroyed. During this period, bastions were built around the city to defend the city. There is no inscription in the castle.

In this center; There are 3 ski centers consisting of Erzurum (Hınıs) Strait, Konaklı and Gez Plateau. Erzurum Strait is also known as Palandöken Ski Center. Palandöken Ski Center has two tracks registered by the International Ski Federation (FIS) for slalom and large slalom competitions.

Palandöken, located in the south of Erzurum with an altitude of 3,176 m, is one of the most important ski centers in the world with its structure suitable for skiing for 5 months, snow quality and long tracks. In 2011, 25 in Erzurum, which hosts the World University Winter Games in Turkey and has become one of the new attractions of the world’s winter tourism. The tracks in Palandöken, which allows the organization of the winter Olympics, are among the longest and steepest tracks in the world. Palandöken is ranked 18th among 41 ski resorts in the world determined by the New York Times.
